Men’s Sheds make an important community contribution in over 50 locations across Tasmania, and the Morrison Government has made legislative changes to further support the amazing work they do.
Last year the Morrison Coalition Government made a commitment to assist the hundreds of Men’s and Women’s Sheds across the country by granting Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status in recognition of the invaluable work they do in our communities.
This week the Government delivered on our commitment, passing legislation to create a category of DGR for Sheds, providing new fundraising potential for Men’s and Women’s Sheds.
This means you can claim an income tax deduction when donating $2 or more to your local Shed, provided they register with the Australian Tax Office for this status.
DGR status incentivises more Australians to support their local Men’s Shed and the amazing work they do.
Men’s Sheds provide a great space for men to learn new skills, make new friends, and participate in projects that provide a positive contribution to the local community.
I’ve been lucky to visit so many of the Men’s Sheds we have around the State, and continue to be impressed with the quality workmanship and passion that is poured into each project.
While COVID-19 continues to impact our everyday lives, Men’s Sheds continue to provide supportive and welcoming environments during this difficult time.
This legislation comes at such an important time, when COVID-19 has reminded us all of the importance of community and mental well-being.
