The new $6 million Brighton Regional Sports Pavilion at Pontville is now officially open, providing state of the art sporting facilities for players of all ages.
Liberal Senator for Tasmania, Claire Chandler, officially opened the new facility today.
“Brighton is a fast-growing municipality and we know how important sport is for the health and wellbeing of communities,” Senator Chandler said.
“The $6 million upgrade funded by the Morrison Government has revitalised the existing sporting precinct at Pontville to provide modern facilities for local teams, from juniors right through to the senior teams at the Brighton District Cricket Club and Brighton Football Club”.
“The cricket and football clubs have had to make do with ageing facilities for many years and this upgrade will be a huge boost to those clubs, as well as encouraging more locals, particularly young people, to get involved.”
The construction and fit-out of the Sports Centre included a new multipurpose function room, bar and commercial kitchen facilities, change rooms and toilets, gym space, committee room, and upgrade to the existing driveway and parking area.
Senator Chandler said the project has provided a huge economic boost to the Brighton area, supporting 50 jobs during the construction and fit-out of the facility. She congratulated the Brighton Council and long-serving Mayor Tony Foster on the project and forward planning for the future of the community.
